Squad takes recreational swimming to the next level opening up opportunities to compete at State and National levels. Squad is open to children and adults with specialised coaching from our experienced and accredited coach Rob Neilson. There are four levels of squad training at Melton Waves and depending upon your swimming ability and aim and purpose you may qualify for one of the levels. Marlins – You must be able to complete 100 meters freestyle and backstroke and have a basic knowledge of breaststroke. Training is up to two times a week with the aim of improving basic skills such as stroke and race development. Bronze State B – You must be willing to become serious about your swimming and start competing in competitions at swimming club level. From there you would progress to district level, training up to four times a week. Silver State A – The emphasis is to understand the importance of the squad program and demonstrate commitment to work with the coach to achieve high standards in competitive swimming. You would compete at state level, train 5-6 times a week with the goal of competing at national level. Gold Nationals – To advance to this group you must obtain national qualifying times and show the necessary commitment and dedication to perform at this elite level. You will train 7-9 times a week with aim of making finals at national competitions and the possibility of winning medals. Swim Squad Coach Silver License accredited Swim Squad coach Rob Neilson has over 25 years experience in swim coaching with the last 11 being here at Melton Waves. Robert has come to us with a history of swimmers making it to compete at National and Open national level. Some of Rob’s squad achievements here at Melton Waves are: · 2 Swimmers have been placed on the Australian Youth Olympic Team in 2003 and 2007 · Current medal winner at Nationals in 2005, 2006, 2007 · Several national finalists · Medal winners and finalists at National open water events · State medley relay gold medal under 12 boys 2004 · Numerous medal winners and representatives at State and District level |
