In recognition of World Drowning Prevention Day on Thursday 25th July, we’re proud to highlight one of our dedicated swimmers here at Melton Waves, Gary Baker.
A strong and consistent presence at the pool, Gary’s commitment to swimming is a great reminder of how important it is to stay confident and capable in the water. His regular visits and positive attitude embody the lifelong benefits of swimming for both physical health and mental wellbeing.
We asked Gary to share a little about his swimming journey:
What inspired you to start swimming?
"I enjoy swimming and it’s a great way to stay fit and make sure I take care of my health."
What’s your current routine and favourite thing about swimming?
"I visit the Waves pretty much every day, I love it here. I swim about four or five times a week – it's great exercise on the body."
Have you achieved any goals or have any current targets?
"I have been doing it for years and have definitely achieved goals I have had."
How has swimming impacted your fitness or wellbeing?
"It’s had an awesome impact on my fitness and my overall wellbeing. I feel fit and always feel happy after a swim."
Any advice for newcomers to the pool?
"Make sure you enjoy it and have fun with it – get what you want to get out of it."
Thank you, Gary, for sharing your story and being such a valued part of the Melton Waves community!
